Energy Efficiency: Appliances and Equipment
Energy consumed by equipment and appliances is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions are responsible for more than a quarter of net greenhouse gas emissions in Australia (excluding land use change and forestry).
Consequently, improved energy efficiency of appliances and equipment is a key objective for the Australian Government.
The 1998 National Greenhouse Strategy sets out Governments’ policy objectives in this area in the following terms:
Improvements in the energy efficiency of domestic appliances and commercial and industrial equipment will be promoted by extending and enhancing the effectiveness of existing labelling and minimum energy performance standards.
In addition to electrical safety requirements and EMC requirements, a range of appliances also require Energy Efficient Labelling before they can be offered for sale:
- Refrigerators and Freezers
- Clothes Dryers
- Air Conditioners
- Dishwashers
- Washing Machines
The following products are also regulated for MEPS compliance:
- Refrigerators and Freezers
- Mains Pressure Electric Storage Water Heaters
- Three Phase Electric Motors
- Single Phase Air Conditioners
- Three Phase Air Conditioners up to 65kw Cooling Capacity
- Ballasts for Linear Fluorescent Lamps
- Distribution Transformers
- Commercial Refrigeration
TCA is NATA accredited to test refrigerators/freezers to AS/NZS 4474.1 so that they can be labelled according to their relative energy consumption and star rating.
Our service is flexible and geared to our customers requirements. Accordingly tests can be carried out or arranged in conjunction with customers requirements.
If you require more information about energy efficiency testing please contact John Diong or Xuan Liu.
