Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
The EMC framework has been established to protect the viability of the radio communications spectrum. The regime is similar to the European EMC directive in that self-declaration is permitted via testing or technical construction files and the same suite of standards based on the CISPR documents, are used. However, each importer or manufacturer must register with the ACA to use the C-tick mark which must be applied to the product labeling.
The C-tick mark also includes a suppliers code which identifies the source of the products for audit purposes. The scheme is randomly audited and fines up to $31,000 may be levied for non-compliance.
Products falling within the scope of the Therapeutic Goods Administration, have additional immunity requirements. Standards similar to IEC 60601 and its collateral standards are applicable and no marking is required.
TCA Product Compliance can arrange all necessary testing and certifications required to place products on the market in Australia and New Zealand. In certain cases, testing documents from other countries can be accepted and used to obtain the necessary certificates. Importers should ensure that they obtain any documentation relevant to safety and EMC as part of their supply contracts. Considerable savings in "to market" costs can be made.
If you require more information on the electromagnetic compatibility requirements please contact Gunther Theisz or Robert Woo.
